Our NS1000 route

The North Coast 500 is a 500 mile round trip that starts and finishes at Inverness. It includes some sections which are great for bikers and sports car rallies but not really suitable for motorhomes.
Our Northern Scotland round trip, NS1000, starts and finishes at Glasgow. It goes anticlockwise and includes most of the NC500 except for the final west to east leg from Loch Carron back to Inverness. The first part of our route includes Loch Lomond and the Trossachs, then the castles at Stirling, Glamis (MacBeth murder) and Scone Palace for some history. Then Aviemore for the  Cairngorms and the Spey Valley, for whisky distilleries at Glenlivet and Glenmorangie, before arriving at Inverness.
After a few days around Inverness it's onto the NC500, the single carriageway roads and the amazing scenery as far as the Appledore peninsular. Instead of the white knuckle Bealach na Ba pass we went over the top from Shieldaig to Kishorn and then round Loch Carron to Skye over the Kyle of Lochalsh bridge.
After a few days exploring Skye we are returning home via Fort William with nearby Ben Nevis and historical Glencoe. After that it's a pretty easy run back to Glasgow via the west side of Loch Lomond with side trips to the odd loch and glen as the mood and midges take us.

Scottish Highlands

Its time we did a bit more touring in Scotland. It was our first trip after buying our first motorhome in 2003 so it is well overdue.

We have been waiting for some decent weather forecasts before we go and have now decided that we are off on the 2nd May come what may. If its still cold and wet I may still head south instead, but as I have just booked sites at Loch Lomond and Scone Palace it will have to be pretty bad.

Plan is a 2000 miles tour of the Trossacks, the Highlands as far as John o Groats, part of NC500 route and the Isle of Skye. It should take about 4 weeks, so that we are back in time for the election and Richards wedding.
